How to Proceed to Obtain an Insurance License

  1. Begin Intellipass online course of study. Order your courses here. A producer license is required for any person who intends to sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance. Completion of pre-licensing training is required before taking the required state producer exams. Applicants for life, health, property, and casualty must complete:
    • 20 hours for life
    • 20 hours for health
    • 20 hours for property
    • 20 hours for casualty
  2. Submit your license application to DCBS, Insurance Division-3, PO Box 14480, Salem, Or. 97309-0405. Click here to obtain a hardcopy application (form 3000). Go to www.nipr.com if you prefer to submit an online application and pay applicable fees with a credit card. Click Resident – Initial License, Begin, Accept (Use Agreement), and complete the application. You may also ask for a fingerprint card and application packet to be sent to you by calling 503-947-7981. Applications usually take 2-4 weeks to process. Online applications are processed quicker than paper applications. An insurance application must be approved before an applicant can register for an exam.
  3. Submit your fingerprint card (available at local police or sheriff departments. Ask them to do the fingerprints for you) to DCBS, Insurance Division-3, PO Box 14480, Salem, Or. 97309-0405.
  4. Schedule your state exam with Prometric (www.prometric.com/Oregon/Insurance.htm or 1-888-763-0135) once your license application has been approved.
  5. Pass the state exam with a score of 70% or better. If you do not pass the exam you may take it again until you pass.

Your license will be sent to you when you complete the state requirements.
